DESCRIPTION

 R-PRIN is a sterile, nonpyrogenic solution of Heparin Sodium in water for injection. R-PRIN is used to treat or prevent blood clots caused during certain medical conditions and it is also used before surgery to reduce the risk of blood clots. Usual adult dose for Blood Transfusion -Addition of 400 to 600 USP units per 100 mL of whole blood is usually employed to prevent coagulation

Usual adult dose for patency maintenance for indwelling intravenous devices-6 units/hr (using 2 units/mL formulation) has been found to be satisfactory.

Usual pediatric dose for Thrombotic/Thromboembolic disorder-
Neonates Initial dose: 75 to 100 units/kg IV bolus over 10 minutes. Maintenance dose: 25 to 30 units/kg/hr IV continuous infusion.
Infants and ChildrenInitial dose: 75 to 100 units/kg IV bolus over 10 minutes. Maintenance dose: Infants: 25 to 30 units/kg/hr IV continuous infusion; Children: 18 to 20 units/kg/hr IV continuous infusion.

SIDE EFFECTS

Most common side effects of R-PRIN are abdominal or stomach pain or swelling , back pain or backaches , bleeding from gums while brushing teeth , blood in the urine , constipation , coughing of blood , dizziness , headaches severe or continuing , heavy bleeding or oozing from cuts or wounds , joint pain , stiffness or swelling , menstrual bleeding unexpected or usually heavy , unexplained bruising or purplish areas on the skin , unexplained nosebleeds , vomiting of blood or material that looks like coffee grounds.
